Pollo Campero has announced the acquisition of seven franchise restaurants in the Washington, D.C. area. The Pollo Campero restaurants were previously owned and operated by American Pollo, the first group to franchise the Pollo Campero brand on the east coast. American Pollo is owned by Jose R. Barahona.
The acquisition reflects the brand’s confidence in the U.S. market according to Campero USA Corp’s President and COO, Roberto Denegri.
“These seven restaurants have a great reputation as established high performers within the Pollo Campero family. We are excited to add them to our corporate restaurant portfolio and further strengthening our corporate footprint in the United States,” explains Denegri.
An eighth Pollo Campero restaurant also operates in Manassas, Va., and is not part of the acquisition. It will remain as an independently run franchise.
The acquisition is the most recent deal in a string of strategic moves by the company. In 2010, Pollo Campero USA acquired a Houston franchise and the following year obtained the franchise from the Boston area.
Tim Pulido, CEO of Campero USA Corp. and Pollo Campero International who oversees the company’s global growth, says Pollo Campero’s parent company CMI (Corporación Multi Inversiones) is “committed to growing the brand in the U.S.”
“Our brand is represented in 14 countries and 3 continents. One of our most significant opportunities is here in the U.S. and the reason we are positioning ourselves for a successful future,” Pulido adds.
In addition to the acquisitions the company recently introduced three new restaurants featuring the modern iteration of its concept to the Houston marketplace which features a new restaurant design, logo and expanded menu designed to appeal to the modern U.S. consumer. A fourth location is slated to open this fall.
“Today more than 114 million people around the world enjoy our fresh Latin food and our famous fried chicken. We have a confident and disciplined approach to growth and look forward to our continued success in the U.S.,” Denegri adds.
The world’s largest Latin chicken restaurant chain, Pollo Campero offers its customers a wide array of fresh, Latin-inspired dishes made with Pollo Campero’s proprietary blend of Latin herbs and spices. Pollo Campero’s signature fried and grilled chicken is loved by millions of customers around the world who have known the brand for decades.
Founded in Guatemala in 1971, the family-owned company now operates more than 345 restaurants in 14 countries around the globe. This includes more than 50 locations presently open in major cities throughout the United States with plans for further expansion.
