Orlando, FL-based SMOKEY BONES BAR & FIRE GRILL has increased by 1 unit, from 65 to 66 (2% growth).  This is a family/casual concept, serving American cuisine.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner, with an $8-$20 per person check average.  Locations have full bar and seating for about 250.  Catering service is available.  The restaurants are located in FL, GA. IL, IN, KY, MA, MD, MI, NC, NY, OH, PA, RI, SC, TN, and VA.

Connecticut-based PLANET PIZZA (founded 1991) has increased by 1 unit, from 9 to 10 (11% growth).  These quick serve Italian & pizza restaurants are open for lunch and dinner, with a $4-$10 per person price range.  Units seat about 40 and beer and wine are served.  Catering, delivery, and online ordering services are available.  Locations are in CT and NY.

New York, NY-based WOLFGANG’S STEAKHOUSE has increased by 1 unit, from 5 to 6 (20% growth).  The restaurants are upscale, with a $15-$50+ per person check average.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner and seating is for about 200.  The restaurants have full bar and offer banquet service.  The restaurants are located in CA, HI, and NY.

GLOWBAL RESTAURANT GROUP of Vancouver, BC (founded 2002) has increased by 1 unit, from 6 to 7 (17% growth) adding a new concept called Black + Blue.  Other company concepts are Coast Restaurant (1), Glowbal Grill & Satay Bar/Afterglow (1), Italian Kitchen (1), Sanafir Restaurant & Lounge (1), Society (1) and Trattoria Italian Kitchen (1).  These tend to be upscale restaurants with full bar and seating for around 250.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $15-$30+.  Catering and banquet services are offered.  All locations are in BC.

CHART HOUSE of Houston, TX (founded 1961) has increased by 1 unit from 30 to 31 (3% growth).  These are upscale steakhouses with full bar and seating for around 200.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $15-$30+.  Catering and banquet services are available.  Locations are in AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, KY, MA, MD, NJ, NV, OR, PA, SC, TX, VA.  Chart House is a subsidiary of Landry’s Restaurants.

THE MELTING POT headquartered in Tampa, FL (founded 1975) has increased by 14 units, from 145 to 159 (10% growth).  These are upscale restaurants with full bar and seating for around 200.  Per person check average is around $15-$50.  Locations serve dinner and banquets are offered.  Trading states are AB, AL, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DC, DE, FL, GA, HI, ID, IL, IN, KY, LA, MA, MD, MI, MN, MO, NC, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, RI, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA WI.

RED LOBSTER (Darden Restaurants) based in Orlando, FL (founded 1968) has increased by 4 units, from 700 to 704 (1% growth).  These are family/casual seafood restaurants with full bar and seating for around 200.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $10-$30.  Catering is available.  Locations are in AB, AL, AR, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DE, FL, GA, HI, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MB, MD, MI, MN, MO, MS, MT, NC, ND, NE, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OH, OK, ON, OR, PA, SC, SD, SK, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, WI, WV and WY.

Emerging and Re-emerging Concepts

Orlando, FL-based EARL OF SANDWICH (founded 2004) has increased by 4 units, from 17 to 21 (24% growth) and entered into CA.  These fast casual sandwich shops are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a $4-$10 per person price range.  Units seat about 50 and offer catering and online ordering services.  Stores are franchised and trade in CA, FL, MA, MI, NJ, NV, NY, PA, TX, London, and France.

Florida-based DIRTY DICK’S CRAB HOUSE has increased by 1 unit for the Dirty Dick’s Crab House concept, from 3 to 4 (33% concept growth).  The company also added a new concept called Dead Eye Dick’s Steakhouse (1 unit).  Overall company increase was from 3 to 5 (67% company growth).  These are family/casual steak and seafood restaurants, open for lunch and dinner, with a $10-$30 per person check average.  The restaurants have full bar and seating for about 250.  Catering is available.  Locations are in FL and NC.

Santa Cruz, CA-based ERIK’S DELICAFE (founded 1973) has increased by 4 units, from 28 to 32 (14% growth).  These fast casual sandwich shops are open for lunch and dinner, with a $3-$8 per person price range.  Seating is for around 60.  Catering service is offered.  Locations are franchised and trade in CA.  We last featured this concept on 6/1/11 (4% growth).

Atlanta, GA-based MELLOW MUSHROOM (founded 1974) has increased by 9 units, from 133 to 142 (7% growth).  These fast casual pizzerias are open for lunch and dinner, with a $6-$12 per person price range.  Some units have full bar service, others are beer and wine only.  Seating is for about 60.  Catering is available.  Locations are franchised and trade in AL, AR, AZ, CO, DC, FL, GA, IN, KY, LA, MS, NC, OH, OR, SC, TN, TX, and VA.  We wrote about this concept on 1/18/11 (3% growth), 5/10/11 (11% growth), and on 11/8/11 (7% growth).

Lincolnshire, IL-based EGG HARBOR CAFÉ (founded 1985) has increased by 1 unit, from 17 to 18 (6% growth).  This family/casual breakfast concept is open for breakfast and lunch, with a $4-$10 per person check average.  Units seat about 100.  Locations are in GA, IL, and WI.  We last wrote about this concept on 4/19/11 (13% growth).
