Portland, OR – Pearl Tavern
Former Oregon Ducks quarterback, Joey Harrington, will open a casual-feel, fine-dining concept at 231 NW 11th. Avenue just prior to Thanksgiving. Not an incarnation of another sports bar the focus will be on food as Chef Roscoe Roberson will oversee a menu of salads, fish, steak, craft beer and craft cocktails.
Ann Arbor, MI – Miss Kim
What does an insurance executive with a six-figure income do as a next career step, of course they open a food cart serving Korean street food favorites. Ji Hye Kim will open her brick and mortar version at 415 N. 5th. Avenue in mid-November offering menu items such as steamed pork buns and spring rolls.
Alexandria, VA – Portner Brewhouse
Descendants of Robert Portner who opened and operated the brewing company bearing his name in 1869 will continue his brewing tradition at 5770 Dow Avenue with an anticipated December opening. The menu will feature locally sourced food with an eye to American comfort and classic Bavarian cuisine.
Charleston, SC – Goat. Sheep. Cow.
The operators of this local favorite cheese shop will finally offer a lingering experience when their second shop opens early November at 804 Meeting Street. A larger space will allow patrons to sit and enjoy offerings from the coffee bar, a selection of wines and of course cheese and charcuterie plates.
Berkeley, CA – Maker’s Common
A new arrival to downtown is set to open February, 2017 at 1954 University Avenue. Partners Sarah Dvorak, Oliver Dameron and Eric Miller envision a market, restaurant and outdoor space specializing in sustainably produced, locally sourced food and spirits. Charcuterie and cheese are the menu focus.
Houston, TX – One Fifth
James Beard award-winning Chef Chris Shepard is a big fan of “projects” with the opening of his new fine dining concept January, 2017 at 1658 Westheimer Road. The restaurant will change to a new concept annually for five years. The first step is a “meat house” offering seared steak and wine-braised goat.
