Toledo, OH – The Brick Bar
Trevor Deeter, owner of Deet’s BBQ, is branching out with a new business venture: The Brick Bar, scheduled to open next month. Mr. Deeter and his business partner, Tim Haye, are transforming the former Deet’s BBQ & Brewery into a special bar experience, located in the heart of downtown at 413 Madison Ave. The new business will fall somewhere in-between an upscale bar and dive bar, since it will feature live entertainment and provide drinks at an affordable price.

Hermitage, TN – Whataburger
Whataburger’s Middle Tennessee takeover is kicking into gear. The Texas burger chain announced locations for nine restaurants, including a highly-anticipated Nashville site. Construction will begin on the first Middle Tennessee Whataburger, located at 5055 Old Hickory Blvd. in Hermitage, with a groundbreaking celebration on Aug. 3 and a projected opening later this year.

Oviedo, FL – Zaza
Zaza is continuing its march across the greater Orlando area. The beloved Cuban chain just announced a new location in Oviedo. According to the Orlando Business Journal, the company signed at lease for the property at 1351 Alafaya Trail, the former home of never-opened tiny burger shop Burgerim.

Pasadena, TX – Chicken Salad Chick
Chicken Salad Chick is scheduled to bring Southern-style recipes to Pasadena this fall with a restaurant at 5409 Crenshaw. The chain has its own spins on classic country-style chicken salad with at least 12 recipes to choose from. The Pasadena location is owned by Clarke and Kim Hayes, who own and operate a Pearland location that opened in the fall at 2110 Pearland Parkway.

Asheville, NC – Daddy Mac’s Home Down Dive
An effort to transform Wild Wing Cafe at 161 Biltmore Ave into an all-new Southern-style restaurant is underway. In place of the Cafe, Daddy Mac’s Home Down Dive, is slated to open in late August. South Slope will be Daddy Mac’s second location; the first opened June 14 in Knoxville. Asheville native Dave McFarland owns both restaurants, named for his paternal grandfather, Charles McFarland.

Phoenix, AZ – Carcara
A new restaurant is set to debut in downtown Phoenix at the Sheraton, part of an extensive top-to-bottom renovation of the hotel’s branding. Carcara, an eatery focusing on the rich traditions of the Southwest, is set to open in September. Carcara, helmed by Executive Chef Chaz Frankenfield, will utilize a locally sourced menu, including Native America and Sonoran-inspired dishes and hand-crafted cocktails. The kitchen will pull from the region’s cotton fields and citrus groves to bring alive a sense of Arizona, honoring the agricultural history of the Phoenix area.
