History
Shuckin’ Shack Oyster Bar franchise is a unique seafood and sports pub environment with many features and benefits that have been the hallmark of the brand for over a decade. In November of 2017, the original location celebrated a ten year anniversary. That location has become a staple in the community, frequented by locals returning several times a week and tourists returning with every visit to Carolina Beach, NC. The location is filled with patrons nightly whether it’s tourist season or not.
A second corporate owned restaurant was opened in 2012 in Historic Wilmington, NC with the same results. Franchising this proven business plan began two years ago, and having just entered the 5th year of franchising, the effort has been a success with 11 franchise locations to date and eight additional franchise locations expected to open in the next 12 months. The additional franchise restaurants include both new franchisees and current franchisees moving to their second and third locations.
Shuckin’ Shack’s current footprint spans a territory reaching Frederick, MD to the north and Summerville, SC to the south. Within the next few months, that territory will continue southward with the opening of a Statesboro, GA location. Shuckin’ Shack has interest in expansion farther along the southeastern seaboard and into the gulf states.
It’s not just the expansion that has garnered attention in communities. Corporate stores and franchisees both have won more than 20 accolades since the onset of franchising, including Coastal Living’s Top 22 Seafood Dives in America and a number of Best Taste awards.
Why the Midwest?
Shuckin’ Shack has demonstrated success in coastal and inland communities throughout the Southeastern United States. The niche concept and simple business model sees the Midwestern states as a natural fit. “We want to bring the coast a little farther west,” says VP of Franchise Development Mario Piccinin. “They haven’t seen anything like us quite yet.” Thus far in their expansion efforts, the initial interest has been very strong, “there’s been an overwhelming amount of positive reaction,” continues Piccinin.
