Featuring made-in-house carnitas and guajillo sauce
Sunny Street Café welcomes Summer with four new specials, featuring favorite seasonal flavors. Known for their twists on homestyle classics, this year Sunny Street is introducing carnitas and guajillo sauce to their palette.
“We’re slow braising pork shoulder until it’s fork tender then quickly crisping it on the grill to give the house made carnitas a rich flavor and texture,” says Matt Stasko, Executive Chef for Sunny Street Café. “Featuring the carnitas on our new breakfast skillet and flatbread really makes the flavors a knock out of the park.”
Slow braised pork carnitas needs a great sauce to go along with it. Sunny Street Café is adding a new made-in-house sauce to their menu. Guajillos are dried chilis that are mild and slightly sweet, then steeped to make a hot sauce that is full of flavor. Guajillo sauce joins the made-from-scratch salsas that are already staples on the Sunny Street menu: salsa, corn and black bean salsa, and pico de gallo.
Summer Berry Toast – Homemade berry reduction and blueberry mousse drizzled over our thick sliced french toast, topped with strawberries and whipped cream. The housemade blueberry mousse really captures the freshness and tastes of Summer- light, sweet, and full of tart blueberry flavor.
Sunny’s Skillet – Hash browns piled high with braised pork carnitas, guajillo hot sauce, two house salsas and three cheeses. Served with an up egg and flash fried tortilla wedges.
Ranchito Chicken Salad – Ancho rubbed chicken, fresh greens, corn, tomato, black beans, cucumbers and queso fresco. Served with guajillo ranch dressing and flash fried tortilla wedges.
Carnitas Flatbread – Braised pork carnitas, pico de gallo, Monterey Jack, and cheddar served open-faced on a warm flatbread. Finished with a drizzle of guajillo hot sauce and cilantro crema.
“This menu was not only fun to create but also delicious to enjoy,” Stasko says. “There’s a little bit for everyone: sweet to spicy to savory.”
