Restaurants slated to open in December 2014 and January 2015
Sunny Street Café is expanding in its home state. The breakfast-lunch chain announced today plans to open two new locations in Central Ohio.
Sunny Street Café will open its first corporately owned store since 2007. The restaurant is slated to open in January 2015 in East Columbus near Blacklick. The chain also has signed an agreement with franchisee Earl Henderson to open a location in Upper Arlington in December 2014. The two new restaurants will bring the Columbus market total to seven.
“Columbus was the natural choice for us to open a corporately owned store. Columbus is our home market, and we are excited by the area’s growth potential,” said Scott Moffitt, president of Sunny Street Café. “The area is responding to the improving economic climate, our sales are strong, our system is healthy and we are reinvesting capital to make improvements that benefit our customers and franchisees.”
Sunny Street Café recently launched a redesigned website that is mobile optimized. Mobile devices now account for the majority of the site’s traffic. The franchise also has invested in back-of-the-house improvements, integrating Rosnet back-of-house management software to allow greater control of food and labor costs, as well as installing Kitchen Display Systems to improve ticket times and reduce labor.
Both new restaurants will feature an expanded footprint and redesigned kitchen. This larger size will help accommodate a growing catering operation and improve efficiencies in the back-of-house as well as feature a private dining space for parties and business meetings in the front. At approximately 4,000 square feet, the Upper Arlington restaurant, located at 4733 Reed Road, at the corner of Henderson Road, will seat 140 guests.
Earl Henderson, along with the Sunny Street Café development team, had been scouting locations in Upper Arlington since late 2013.
“We searched long and hard for the right location,” said Henderson. “We’re finally looking forward to bringing a great breakfast and lunch experience to our friends and neighbors in the Upper Arlington community. The ability to focus on delicious food and exceptional service as well as get my family involved is why I love Sunny Street Café.”
The other restaurant will be located at 6607 East Broad Street in a new retail center, anchored by an LA Fitness that is located directly behind the center. The new 3,500-square-foot location is a part of a 10-acre, mixed-use development, near Mt. Carmel East Hospital, that supports businesses and housing along the East Broad Street corridor.
“The East Broad restaurant is located in a growing community and represents one of the best new retail areas in Columbus,” said Moffitt. “We are actively seeking new real estate locations and expect to add an additional two to four locations in Central Ohio over the next 18 months.”
Sunny Street Café operates 14 franchised locations in Ohio, Texas, Missouri and Alabama, open daily from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Restaurants feature a wide variety of breakfast and lunch fare, including signature dishes such as “big as the plate” buttermilk pancakes, Stuffed Biscuits and Gravy, Tex-Mex Omelette, Southwest Turkey Club, Buffalo Chicken Salad, homemade soups, fresh fruit, and from-scratch muffins. Restaurants also offer full service catering, take out and special event hosting. Franchise opportunities are currently available for both first-time owners and existing operators and developers.
