Also Medals with Two Gold, a Silver and Bronze
For the third time in six years, TAPS Fish House & Brewery was honored as the Mid-Size Brewpub and Brewery Team of the Year at the largest national beer competition—the 2015 Great American Beer Festival (GABF) held annually in Denver, Colorado. TAPS previously won Brewpub Group and Brewer of the Year at GABF for two consecutive years in 2010 and 2011.
The sprawling restaurant-brewery, founded in 1999 in Brea, CA and with locations in Corona and Irvine, also received two Gold medals for Irish Red Ale and Velvet Hog Chocolate Porter; a Silver for Kellerbier; and Bronze for a pilsner, Amend This!
TAPS brewers, headed by David Hulls and Kyle Manns, were present, as were other members of the Brew Crew, Jon Chiusano and Steven Torres.
“It’s beyond humbling to be recognized not only for our beers, but our brewery and the tremendous team who make it happen,” said Joe Manzella, TAPS owner-founder. “The passion these guys bring on a daily basis to their craft of creating the best beers in the nation make me incredibly proud.”
The renowned event, presented by the Brewers Association, drew an impressive field of competitors that were reviewed by an international panel of 242 expert judges. Award-winning brewers received prestigious gold, silver and bronze medals in 92 beer categories covering 145 different beer styles, establishing the best examples of each style in the country. Winners were chosen from 6,647 competition entries (20 percent more than in 2014) from 1,552 breweries hailing from 50 states plus Washington, D.C. The awards ceremony was held September 26.
Since 2001 TAPS has won 75 medals at beer competitions at the regional, state, national and international levels. Thirty of the awards are gold.
The privately-owned TAPS Fish House & Brewery, which opened in 1999 has three locations. The original and flagship is located at 101 East Imperial Highway in Brea Downtown. A second location opened in 2007 at The Shops at Dos Lagos (2745 Lakeshore Drive) in Corona, in the Inland Empire. TAPS third restaurant, opened this past summer at The Market Place in Irvine, is at 13390 Jamboree Road. TAPS is a celebration of seafood, hand-cut steaks and award-winning traditional and innovative ales and lagers. A connoisseur’s wine list recognized by the Wine Spectator showcases a variety of wines. The restaurant, privately owned by founder Joe Manzella, offers a choice of fine dining or the more casual, comfortable bar-lounge; oyster bar, multiple patios and private dining. TAPS is known for its popular Sunday Brunch.
