The flagship location of The Cowfish in Charlotte is preparing to briefly close its doors this fall to undergo a long overdue renovation. The locally owned spot opened at The Village at SouthPark in November of 2010 and hasn’t looked back since. A longtime neighborhood favorite known for its unique menu mix of sushi and burgers and come as you are, high energy vibe, the concept was named the #6 burger in the U.S. in 2023 by Yelp and best sushi in Raleigh in 2023 by The News & Observer. In May, 2024, it was named one of the 20 best sushi restaurants in Charlotte by Axios Charlotte and just this month it was named one of Charlotte’s Best Places to Celebrate a Birthday by The Charlotte Observer.
The Cowfish team has approached the upcoming renovation in the same manner they took on their recent expansion project at their sister concept eeZ, by incorporating feedback from the two groups who know the restaurant best: their guests and their team in SouthPark.
The restaurant will briefly close its doors during the renovations, which are planned for September. According to Owner Alan Springate, guests can expect to see a sleeker, much more modern interior with an improved bar, an upgraded sushi bar and overall dining experience that will pay homage to the brand’s roots when the project is complete. Intimate dining spaces paired with unique light fixtures, fun details in the ceiling and floors and a dash of the pop art The Cowfish has long been known for will lead into a newly expanded patio area, which will be dog and kid friendly, just like always. The group expects to invest roughly a half a million dollars in the renovation, with Gais Construction and Designbar managing the project.
