The Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar at North Hills is celebrating 10 years in the Triangle this year with a number of fun, ongoing giveaways planned for their guests. Located in the CAPTRUST Tower, the family friendly spot is well known for its burgers and super fresh sushi and home to burgushi, a blend of the two. Celebrating a birthday? The Cowfish is the place to be with their fun gong song and complimentary Mousse is Loose, a decadent, shareable dessert made with layers of freshly baked fudge brownies, chocolate mousse and vanilla mousse.
After a decade what sets this locally owned, neighborhood favorite apart? According to owner Alan Springate, “Our group has worked with our longtime beef purveyor, Niman Ranch for years to provide simply the best burgers. Our all natural, beef burgers are from sustainably raised, certified humane cattle that have never, ever been given antibiotics or hormones. Over the years we have not wavered in our commitment to quality, whether it is our burgers or our sushi.” Burgers are a full half pound and not for the faint of heart: the new Stout Burger is topped with Guinness mustard aioli, gruyere, mushrooms and crispy onion strings. The Local Yokel features goat cheese, fresh basil, fried cherry peppers and an Abbott Farms FROG (fig, raspberry, orange and ginger) jam reduction. The restaurant took the top spot in the latest WRAL Voters Choice Awards for Burgers in the Triangle; read more about their burgers here.
Sushi is equally as impressive, with just as much attention and care paid to the group’s seafood partners. Longtime tuna purveyor, Hilo Fish Company has long been on the list of Top 25 in North America for Seafood Sustainability & Conservation; salmon from their long-standing purveyor, Bakkafrost, are sustainably raised and harvested. Just this month The Cowfish was thrilled to be crowned Best Sushi in the News & Observer’s Best Sushi poll.
The group quickly came to the conclusion that sushi and burgers could be even better together and burgushi was born; the wildly popular dish is a burger made in sushi form. The All-American Bacon Double Cheeseburgooshi is a fan favorite, made with all natural beef, yellow cheddar cheese, white cheddar cheese, applewood bacon and red onion, wrapped in rice, soy paper and potato strings then flash fried. It is then topped with ketchup, mustard, dill pickle, roma tomato and chives.
Since opening 10 years ago at North Hills the concept has added both take out and catering while becoming well known for its commitment to community. It is also one of the most popular selfie spots at North Hills due to the extra large, yellow cowfish statue parked out front.
The Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar can also be found in Charlotte at SouthPark and at Universal’s CityWalk in both Orlando and Beijing. For more information visit thecowfish.com.
