In honor of National Lumpia Day (March 16), Local Kitchens, the pioneering micro food hall concept with a diverse mix of award-winning restaurants, has partnered with the East Bay fan-favorite The Lumpia Company for a limited time pop-up at its the Palo Alto, Mountain View, San Jose, Lafayette and Cupertino locations. Best known for its unique takes on the classic Filipino spring roll, The Lumpia Company serves up over five varieties of lumpia, house-made sauces and rice plates offering delicious Filipino flavors to the Oakland community and, during baseball season, to fans at the San Francisco Giants’ Oracle Park. The concept was founded in 2015 by Bay Area native food entrepreneur Alex Retodo and in 2019, inspired East Bay rapper and Filipino food enthusiast, E-40, to join as co-owner as well. The restaurant joins several other innovative restaurant concepts within Local Kitchens, where guests can mix and match dishes from all menus into a single order for pickup, dine-in, or delivery.
The Lumpia Company menu at the five Local Kitchens locations will feature a limited-menu of fan favorites including the Chicken Veggie Lumpia, made with ground chicken, cabbage, carrots, green beans and sprouts; Pork & Shrimp ‘Shanghai’ Lumpia, made with ground pork, ground shrimp, water chestnuts, garlic and oyster sauce; the Bacon Cheeseburger Lumpia, filled with ground beef, smoked bacon, cheddar cheese, garlic and onions; and the classic Mama’s Veggie Lumpia, with cabbage, carrots, green beans and sprouts.
“We are beyond excited to bring The Lumpia Company to five of our Local Kitchens across the Peninsula and South Bay, for a limited time, and offer our guests this Oakland-based Filipino fusion snack that diversifies our guests’ menu options,” said Jon Goldsmith, CEO and Co-Founder of Local Kitchens. “Lumpia is a delicious snackable menu item that allows for easy preparation in our kitchens and it’s especially fitting to launch our pop up on National Lumpia Day! We’re confident that this concept will not only be a great addition to our wonderful mix of restaurant brands, but we’re thrilled to bring, what otherwise is only offered in the East Bay, to guests across the Peninsula and South Bay!”
Local Kitchens was founded by former DoorDash colleagues, CEO Jon Goldsmith and COO Andrew Munday, and CTO Jordan Bramble. The entrepreneurs set out to transform the concept of a food hall for the digital age. Local Kitchens features convenient online and mobile ordering, paired with fast and friendly service. The micro food hall concept allows guests to mix and match cuisines from different restaurants in a single order.

The Lumpia Company was founded in 2015 by food entrepreneur Alex Retodo, channeling his mother’s Filipino cooking but with some flavor twists, such as the best-selling Bacon Cheeseburger Lumpia. With a food truck in San Francisco and its first brick and mortar in Oakland, The Lumpia Co. has made moves in Filipino cuisine across the Bay Area. Rapper E-40 became co-owner with Retodo in 2019 after being given a sample of Retodo’s Lumpia and the rest is history. The concept has since launched a vendor booth inside the Giants Ballpark, being one of the first lumpia businesses inside a stadium, selling three to four varieties of lumpia at a time along with soft serve Filipino flavors of ube and mango. The concept’s mission is to bring these recipes across California and eventually across the country.
