Free doughnut holes Friday and Saturday; doughnut eating contest Sunday
National Doughnut Day is Friday, June 5. But a one-day celebration of the classic American treat just wasn’t good enough for Top Pot Doughnuts.
Instead, Dallas’ first Doughnut and Coffee café is planning an entire weekend of festivities to mark this most delicious of food holidays.
On Friday and Saturday, June 5-6, both local Top Pot stores will give away free doughnut holes from opening through 9:30 a.m., or while supplies last. Top Pot’s location at 8611 Hillcrest Avenue in Dallas opens at 6:30 a.m., while its newest location, at 2937 Greenville Avenue, opens at 6 a.m.
On Sunday, June 7, the Hillcrest store only will host a doughnut eating contest, beginning at 3 p.m. In addition to all the delicious old-fashioned doughnuts they can eat in five minutes, competitors will be vying for several prizes, including the $50 Top Pot gift card grand prize. Anyone age 12 and older may enter, with no advanced sign-up necessary.
“We’re the new kids on the block in Dallas, so we hope everyone will come by at least once over the weekend to say hi and try a few of our hand-forged gourmet doughnuts, along with some hand-roasted coffee,” said Alex Sharma, Chairman of Top Pot Doughnuts. “After all, it’s pretty hard to beat free doughnut holes, and Sunday’s doughnut eating contest is sure to be great entertainment!”
Top Pot is also inviting guests to bring canned and non-perishable goods to both stores from Friday to Sunday. All items will be donated to the North Texas Food Bank.
“As we celebrate this weekend with doughnuts and fun, we are also reminded that there are many less-fortunate people in our community who go to bed hungry every night,” said Sharma. “We started collecting donations on special occasions like this in our hometown of Seattle, and we want to continue that tradition here as well.”
