On Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012 Weathervane’s Lobster in the Rough hosted the 5th Annual River Dance to benefit the local Fuel and More Program. Randy Price of WCVB Channel 5 was the Master of Ceremonies and participants danced the night away on Badgers Island while enjoying the music of Ben Baldwin. Since the Fuel & More program began in 2006, hundreds of Kittery families have received assistance, which allowed them to stay warm during our long New England winters. This year’s total has not yet been determined but pre-sale tickets alone raised over $1800. Over 100 people attended and participated in the prize raffle, the 50/50 raffle and the silent auction while enjoying local food and beverages including lobster bisque and scallops wrapped in bacon served by the Weathervane Staff. Terry Gagner, Owner of the Weathervane Restaurants for over 35 years was excited by the turnout and impressed by the community spirit displayed at the event.

BOSTON — On Sunday, Sept. 9th the streets from Hopkinton to Boston were filled with over 9,000 people taking part in the 24th annual Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk.
This year’s goal was to raise over 7.5 million dollars to fund innovative adult and pediatric cancer research and care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. During the past 23 years, walkers and their financial supporters have contributed more than $75 million to help reach the goal of a world without cancer. All the participants — whether it was their 24th Walk or their first, whether they took on the entire marathon or one of the other four routes, or whether they walked in honor or in memory of loved ones affected by cancer — walked to help change the odds for those with the disease. The day ends in Copley Square where the walkers can unwind and get a complimentary bite to eat. Weathervane Seafood Restaurants was one of the participating restaurants and donated and served over 5,500 cups of Bea’s famous clam chowder. Weathervane has been serving chowder to the exhausted walkers at the finish line for the last 20 years.
