Fan Favorite Returns for Limited Time

Whataburger Brings Back Green Chile Double Burger to Texas, OklahomaWhataburger’s popular Green Chile Double Burger is back once more for a limited time in Texas and Oklahoma. The burger, with a roasted green chile flavor, returned earlier this week to satisfy bold tastes.

The Green Chile Double Burger features two, 100-percent pure beef patties, both Monterey Jack and American cheese slices, and roasted, seasoned green chiles on a toasted bun. The chiles give the burger its flavor, but fans can kick up the spice by adding jalapeños for a few cents more.

The popular burger first debuted back in 2010 and was made a permanent “All Time Favorite” menu item in Whataburger locations across Arizona, New Mexico and El Paso due to the green chiles’ influence in southwestern cuisine.

“We heard from our fans that they’ve missed the Green Chile Double as an option for their burgers. We listened and are excited to bring back the bold flavor to Texas and Oklahoma customers,” said Whataburger Vice President of Marketing and Innovation Rich Scheffler. “Plus, with green chiles back as an add-on, customers can enjoy the roasted green chile flavor on their Taquitos, Chicken Fajita Tacos and any of their favorite Whataburger menu items.”

The Green Chile Double is available as a meal or a la carte, and also can be ordered as a junior version on a smaller bun.

Whataburger has focused on its fresh, made-to-order burgers and friendly customer service since 1950 when Harmon Dobson opened the first Whataburger as a small roadside burger stand in Corpus Christi, Texas. Dobson gave his restaurant a name he hoped to hear customers say every time they took a bite of his made-to-order burgers: “What a burger!” Within the first week, people lined up around the block for his 25 cent, 100-percent beef burgers served on five-inch buns. Today, the company is headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, with more than 760 locations in 10 states with sales of more than $1 billion annually.
