Just as high school football is heating up across D-FW, Wingstop is reintroducing its High School Scholar Athlete of the Month program, which recognizes top students throughout North Texas.
The Wingstop D-FW advertising co-op, made up of more than 75 restaurants throughout the area, launched the scholarship initiative for student athletes in January 2012. Each month Wingstop and KTVT-TV CBS invite viewers, athletic directors, coaches and members of the community to nominate exceptional athletes from the Metroplex to receive a $1,000 scholarship from Wingstop.
The first athlete of the 2013-14 school year to be recognized is Madison Edwards from Byron Nelson High School in Trophy Club. Edwards was selected as the August athlete of the month due to her academic and athletic excellence.
“Wingstop’s High School Scholar Athlete of the Month program is our way of giving back to the communities across North Texas and honoring the most talented, hard-working young people from the area,” said Wingstop D-FW Advertising Co-op president Rex Heckelman. “We’re excited to continue recognizing amazing students and athletes like Madison this school year.”
A leader in athletics, academics and her community, Madison Edwards is a member of the varsity basketball and varsity track teams and serves as basketball team captain. She is currently ranked second in her graduating class, volunteers at a local hospice, is a member of student council and National Honor Society and actively involved with her church.
