Winter is finally heating up in North Texas. Wingstop, the award winning chicken wing chain with 550 locations, is hosting an Atomic Wing-Eating Contest at ZestFest 2013Saturday, January 26, at 1p.m. at the Irving Convention Center in Las Colinas.
The annual ZestFest is one of the largest events in the nation that showcases the fieriest food products from around the country. Made with habanero peppers, Atomic is the hottest flavor on the Wingstop menu and the concept’s boneless wings have been featured at the Atomic contest for four years.
“ZestFest and the Atomic wing-eating contest have become Texas traditions,” said Rex Heckelman, president of the Wingstop D-FW Advertising Co-op. “It can be painful for the participants, but we’re excited to see who can handle the heat of our famously hot Atomic boneless wings.”
Registration for the Atomic Wing-Eating Contest begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 26. Registration is available at the Wingstop table, next to the main stage.
The contest kicks off at 1 p.m. and includes several qualifying rounds. The winners of each qualifying round will then advance to a final round where the first person to finish 10 Atomic boneless wings will be named the ZestFest Atomic Wing-Eating Champion and receive a big screen television. The second and third place finishers in the final round will receive Wingstop gift cards.
ZestFest is Friday, January 25 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, January 26 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, January 27 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are $15 and available at the door. Children under 10 are free. Admission to the event includes tastings, beer and liquor sampling, entertainment, and cooking demonstrations.
